Africa's premier event on sustainable development and climate change: "Africa Green Week"

Africa Green Week is a project of activities on environment, climate and sustainable agriculture. It is aimed at experts, environmental activists, farmers, media, NGOs, governments and other stakeholders to discuss environmental protection and climate change adaptation mechanisms in Africa.

Africa Green Week is a pan-African event to be held for the first time in Burkina Faso in September 2023. It aims to raise awareness and promote action on issues related to sustainable agriculture, environment and climate change in Africa. The project will bring together participants from across the continent and from different backgrounds, including governments, civil society, businesses, international organisations and institutions,... to discuss the challenges and opportunities of climate change, to propose mitigation and adaptation strategies, and to develop solutions to the challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation. It will also provide a platform for African stakeholders to share best practices and develop strategies for a more sustainable future.

The first edition of this major travelling event will be held under the theme: "The role of the media and NGOs in communicating and popularising solutions to climate change". It will focus on coordinating and effectively communicating on climate change to different audiences.

The objectives of the Africa Green Week are

  • To increase public awareness and understanding of sustainable agriculture, environment and climate change issues in Africa.

  • Strengthen the capacity of government, civil society and business to address issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals and climate change.

  • Promote the adoption of sustainable practices and policies in Africa.

  • Foster collaboration and partnerships between African governments, civil society and business to address environmental and climate change issues.

  • Provide a platform for African leaders to share best practices and develop strategies for a more sustainable future.

  • Support the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals in Africa.

  • Encourage public participation in environmental and sustainable development initiatives.

  • Promote innovative solutions to environmental and climate change issues in Africa.

  • Facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience among African countries on sustainable agriculture, environment and climate change issues.

  • Strengthen the capacity of African countries to access international climate finance.

During the four days, different stakeholders will have the opportunity to participate in interactive activities such as round tables, workshops, conferences, exhibitions and field visits. They will also have the opportunity to network with each other and learn from experts and green businesses.

Africa Green Week will bring together around two hundred professionals in face-to-face and online sessions. The event will also pay special attention to the representation of all segments and stakeholders in the activities.
